To standardize the management of the Confucius Institute brand and serve for the sustainable and high-quality development of Confucius Institutes worldwide, the Chinese International Education Foundation (CIEF) released the first Confucius Institute bilingual glossary (in Chinese and English) in June 2024. The glossary has, upon its release, received enthusiastic responses and positive feedback from all walks of life, serving for the teaching and management work of global Confucius Institutes and host institutions, while significantly enhancing the brand influence of Confucius Institute.
The year 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute. Under the initiative of the CIEF, Confucius Institutes around the world held a series of diverse and informative celebration activities, generating and accumulating a new batch of brand terms. To ensure the accuracy and timeliness of these terms, we hereby release the Bilingual Glossary for the Confucius Institute Brand (2025 Revised Edition) after meticulous review and compilation.
This revised edition has added 15 new Confucius Institute terms, including "CIer," "Expert Database for CI," "Confucius Institute APP," and "Confucius Institutes for Business Alliance". Some terms in lack of timeliness have been removed, while such terms as "Online Spring Festival Gala of Confucius Institutes" have been revised. A total of 88 terms have been reviewed and published.
We sincerely welcome suggestions for the glossary from CIers worldwide and from experts and scholars of all sectors, so as to jointly promote the high-level development of the Confucius Institute brand.
